Chattanooga Airshow

Several Chilhowee Gliderport pilots promoted soaring by displaying a pair of sailplanes at the 2005 Chattanooga Airshow on October 28 & 29. The two-day event featured the Navy's Blue Angels, Otto the Helicopter, Starfighters, Shockwave Jet Truck, Fat Albert, and the Jim LeRoy's Bulldog Pitts. Interest in gliders from the general public, aviation enthusiasts, and power pilots was very high and volunteer pilots distributed brochures on Discovering Soaring, Youth Soaring, Places to Soar, and extra copies of a previous month's Soaring magazine graciously provided by the SSA as well as Chilhowee Gliderport literature. Special thanks to Bruce Fox, Phil Snider, Peter Pfortner and Leo Benetti-Longhini for doing an excellent job of building interest in soaring by sharing with the many airshow attendees.

Aerobatic Training Weekend

The aerobatic training held February 26 & 27 was a huge success with 13 aerobatic flights performed and two excellent ground schools held. Pilots visited from Ohio, Memphis, Birmingham, the Carolinas, and of course locally from East Tennessee and Georgia. Special thanks to Mark Lenox, Chuck Patterson, and Leo Benetti-Longhini for working hard to make this such a great event. One of our participants, Don Stansberry III took some great photos, they may be viewed on the Photos pages.

 

 

New Owner

As of September 1, 2004, Sarah Kelly is the new owner/operator of Chilhowee Gliderport, making her the youngest Commercial Gliderport owner in the United States.
